Man Meets Death In Auto Accident

Charles Miller, a farm hand of Petaluma, was fatally injured, and Abe Mengen, a junk dealer of the same place, was cut and bruised last Friday afternoon when the car in which they were riding crashed into a tree on a curve at Novato near the Robert Trumbull home.

Mengen, who was driving the car, stated that as they rounded the curve Miller reached over and grasped the steering wheel, changing the course and turning the car head on into the tree. Both men were thrown out. Mengen was taken to Petaluma at once and Dr. Allen was called to attend Miller, who did not die until about 6 o’clock.

The body was removed to the morgue by Coroner J. Ray Keaton, who will hold an inquest.

Miller, aged about 55 years, was unmarried. He had worked on ranches in Marin county for several years, but made his headquarters at Petaluma. Friday, according to Mengen, Miller asked the privilege of riding on Mengen’s regular trip that day through Marin county.
