BERNARD SELIGMAN

A private service will be held for Bernard Seligman, 71, of Sleepy Hollow, who died unexpectedly of a heart attack while attending a business convention in Long Beach Friday.

Seligman, who had bee a distributor of Amway-Nutrilite food supplements for almost 30 years, was attending an Amway convention at the Long Beach Convention Hall when stricken.

Seligman was one of the original directors of t he Marin Visitors Bureau when it was founded in 1962, and he continued as director with the Marin County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau. He was past president of t he San Rafael Lions Club, and active in bay conservation through the California Marine Parks and Harbors Association.

He graduated from Golden Gate University in freight traffic and transportation and was stationed in Shanghai and Hong Kong in 1948 and 1949 as assistant Far East manager of U. S. Lines. From 1951 to 1954, he was assistant chief staff officer for operations for the Military Sea Transport Service in the New Orleans area and was commanding officer for Navy Reserve units for the 12th Naval District. He retired from Navy service as a captain.

A native of Utah, he had lived in Sleepy Hollow since 1954.

Seligman is survived by his wife, Arvilla Parker Seligman of Sleepy Hollow, a son, Peter Seligman of San Diego; a daughter, Linda Schulz of Oxford, England; and two granddaughters.

Family members asked that any donations be given to the Guide Dogs for the Blind or to the donor’s favorite charity.
