JOSEPH P. CAMARA
Joseph P. Camara of Sausalito, a retired fisherman who had lived in Marin for 58 years, died in a local hospital Tuesday after a long illness. He was 78.
Camara was born in the Azores and came to Sausalito in 1920. After working as a dairyman and a deckhand on bay ferry boats, he worked as a commercial fisherman aboard his boat Bo-de-j based in Sausalito. He was a member of I.D.E.S. and I.D.E.S.S.T., two Portuguese lodges based in Sausalito.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Josie Camara of Sausalito; a son, Arthur J. Camara of Corte Madera; a brother, Frank Camara of Pittsburgh; two sisters in the Azores; and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at Star of the Sea Church in Sausalito. The rosary will be recited Thursday at 8 p.m. at Star of the Sea Church. Entombment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in San Rafael.
Friends may call at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael until 3 p.m. Thursday.
