C. O. SOLLOM

Cuthbert Oliver Sollom of Belvedere, a local businessman and the great-great-great grandson of Marin County pioneer John Reed, died of a heart attack Monday in Bakersfield. He was traveling with his wife to the desert for a vacation. He was 73.

Sollom was born in Mill Valley, where his ancestor started a sawmill. He owned the Mill Valley Ford dealership, Tamalpais Motors, for 32 years. He retired in 1951. He was a director for Sausalito Savings and Loan and Eureka Federal Savings and Loan. He was a member of the Elks Club and the Meadow Club.

He is survived by his wife, Florence M. Sollom; a son, Frederick O. Sollom of Petaluma; a daughter, Sandra Sollom of San Rafael; a sister, Inez M. Purser of Stinson Beach; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Russell and Gooch Funeral Chapel, Mill Valley. A private Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Hilary’s Church, Tiburon, on Thursday. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.

The family prefers memorial gifts to the Heart Association.
