CLYDE F. TRUDELL

Capt. Clyde F. Trudell, U.S.N.R., of Sausalito, an architect and historian, died Sunday at a local hospital after a brief illness.

A San Francisco native, he moved to Sausalito in 1944. He had his own architectural firm in San Francisco for 40 years. His work focused on restoration. He worked on restoration plans for Old Sacramento, Columbia in the California Mother Lode, several buildings in Old San Diego and Williamsburg, Va.

He was a veteran of World War II campaigns in the Aleutian Islands and in the South Pacific. He joined the 21st C.B. Battalion of the Navy in 1943 as a lieutenant and retired as a captain from the naval reserves in 1966.

After his retirement, he began writing on historic subjects. He authored a book on colonial Yorktown and had recently completed a book on Edward Fitzgerald Beale, an American frontiersman. He was a past president of the San Francisco Architectural Club and a member of the Westerners of San Francisco, the Sausalito Historical Society, the California Historical Society and many other historical societies.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha Trudell of Sausalito, and a sister, Gladys Cantwell of Daly City.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel, Mill Valley. Friends may call at t he funeral home between 7:30 and 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael.
