HELEN G. SHIPPEY
Retired Sausalito teacher
Helen Greenhut Shippey of Mill Valley, a Sausalito teacher for 28 years, died Aug. 10 of cancer in Novato. She was 84.
She was born in New York City. She attended Hunter College and Columbia University.
She lived in Sausalito for more than 40 years and worked for the Sausalito School District for 28 years. She was a past president of the Sausalito Teachers Association.
She was a member of the Winifred Baker Chorale and toured with the group in England.
The Sausalito Library named the Helen G. Shippey Reading Room in her honor.
She was also a member of the American Association of University Women; the League of Women Voters; and the Congregation Rodef Shalom.
She is survived by a daughter, Katrina Nata of Novato; a son, Frank Shippey of Lagunitas; a brother, Carl Greenhut of Walnut Creek; and three grandchildren.
Private services were held.
