WARREN S. HYDE

Warren S. Hyde, 82, of San Anselmo, retired chief safety engineer for Pacific Gas and Electric O., died Saturday at a local hospital after an illness.

Hyde had been employed by the utility firm for 41 years before he retired 17 years ago.

He started as a helper in the Oakland gas plant, then became chemist, inspector of technical services, safety supervisor and assistant safety engineer. He was named safety engineer in October, 1954.

Hyde, working at the general office in San Francisco, was chief safety engineer for the company in California. He had been a resident of Marin for 28 years.

Hyde was a native of San Francisco and attended Berkeley High School and later studied chemistry at the University of California while working for PG&E.

During World War I, he served in the Army.

Hyde was a member of the American Association of Safety Engineers, Sons in Retirement of Marin, Pacific Coast Gas Association, Pacific Coast Electrical Association. He was a past president of Pacific Employees Association and a 57-year member of Rock Ridge Lodge 468, Free and Accepted Masons.

Surviving are his wife, June Hyde, of San Anselmo; two daughters, Jean M. Hyde of Palo Alto and Kathy Sennello of Petaluma; a son, Warren W. Hyde of San Anselmo; and three sisters, Theda W. and Mary Hyde, both of Hayward, and Grace White of Willitts, Mendocino County.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo. Entombment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. today at the Chapel of the Hills. The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the Marin Easter Seal Society or the Masonic Homes.
