CAROL MITCHELL
Carol Elizabeth Edgerton Mitchell of Larkspur, an assistant professor at the University of California’s School of Nursing in San Francisco, died Saturday at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Mitchell, 51, was honored for her excellence in teaching by the school’s 1978 graduating class, which held commencement in her honor.
She was interested in community mental health and worked with her students in that field and also alcoholism in the family unit.
She had received a federal grant to do research on “mobility as a stress factor” and also was working on her doctorate at the University of San Francisco at the time of her death.
A native of Hartford, Conn., she earned her nursing degree at Hartford Hospital and also was a graduate of Green Mountain College in Vermont and received a master’s degree in nursing from the University of California at Los Angeles.
She and her family had lived in California 10 years and in Marin County the past six years.
Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the Audubon Society and the Sierra Club.
She was the wife of Grant L. Mitchell, who is with the States Steamship Lines in San Francisco. Also surviving are four children, Carol Lee, Diane Lynn, Glenn Lindsey and Richard Dana Mitchell, all of the family home in Larkspur, and three brothers, Richard Edgerton of Redwood City, and Jack and Theodore Mitchell, both of Connecticut.
The funeral will be in Canton, Conn.
