Sudden Death Calls Novato Merchant

The announcement of the sudden death in Novato yesterday of Johannes E. Edsberg, familiarly known as “Jack,” came as a shock to his hosts of friends in Marin county.

It was known that he had been suffering from heart trouble, but few knew the danger was of a grave nature. The preceding day Edsberg had been a party to a civil suit tried before Judge Butler in the Superior Court, and apparently he was in the best of health.

For many years he had been one of the leading businessmen of Novato, conducting a meat market there and prospering.

He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Sarah E. Edsberg and a daughter, Mrs. Florence Mather. He was 53 years of age. A brother survives him, Charles Edsberg, formerly proprietor of a meat market in Fairfax.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at the Edsberg home under the auspices of the Petaluma lodge of Elks, and under the direction of the F. E. Sawyer Company. Edsberg was a member also of Genessee Tribe of Red Men, No. 207. The interment will be private.
