Instantly Killed In Auto Accident

William Hartery was instantly killed and three other men more or less injured last Friday morning when the automobile in which they were riding overturned three times on the state highway between Alto and Belvedere.

Two of the men, Richard Courtier Jr., of San Francisco, who had been employed in a Sausalito laundry, and Glen C. Hart, an ex-soldier, of Sausalito, were taken to the Emergency Hospital here. Courtier sustained a bad scalp wound and internal injuries, and Hart suffered a broken rib. A man named Reed, also in the car, was slightly cut. He was treated at the hospital by Dr. R. G. Dufficy and allowed to go.

Hartery lived in Kentfield. Up to three weeks ago he was employed on a pipeline gang by the Pacific Gas & Electric Company. Hartery was the driver of the car, a Chevrolet purchased a few weeks ago.

According to the statement of one of the injured men, the machine turned out to pass a team of mules, and striking the dirt at the edge of the highway, shot over the embankment.

Hartery’s remains were removed to Coroner Keaton’s morgue and arrangements were made for the funeral under the direction of the F. E. Sawyer Company. Hartery was about 25 years of age.
