JOHN G. COVEY
A gathering of friends in tribute to John G. Covey, a 42-year resident of Mill Valley, will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Russell and Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley.
Covey died Saturday in a local hospital after a brief illness. He was 81.
Covey was born in England, then moved as a child to Auburn, where his parents operated a ranch for many years.
For some 40 years, Covey was a service man for the Bank of America, caring for the institution’s office machines and safes. He also was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and angler, as well as a gardener.
His late wife, Lucille Covey, died in 1976. She was founder of the private Covey School in Mill Valley, for elementary school students.
Covey is survived by his son, Colin Covey of Sausalito, and two grandchildren.
Burial will be private.
