JOHN B. PETERS
John B. Peters, a retired book store manager, died today at a local convalescent hospital after a long illness. He was 83.
Peters had lived in Cotati since his retirement as manager of Presbyterian Book Stores.
A native of Chicago, he served in the Navy during World War I. After his discharge, he began work for Pilgrim Press in Chicago and later worked for Presbyterian Book Stores.
Peters was transferred to the Los Angeles store in 1929 and was named manager in 1939.
Peters and his wife, Marion, moved from Glendale to Petaluma after his retirement in 1959. They settled in Cotati a short time later.
Peters was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Petaluma.
He is also survived by six daughters, Dorothy Dell’Era of Cotati, Helen McBride of Napa, Marjorie Russell of Novato, Lois Genetti of San Anselmo, Joanne Stock of Petaluma and Marilynn Hoffman of Lagunitas; a son, Donald Peters of Sunnyvale; 20 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Parent Funeral Chapel, Petaluma. Private inurnment will be at Cypress Hill Memorial Park.
Contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
