PAUL STILLSON
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael for Dr. Paul Stillson, a San Rafael chemist and systems analyst. He suffered a heart attack at his home Friday morning and died a few hours later at a local hospital.
Stillson, 57, a native of Redding, Pa., married Augusta Ragna Erickson on Jan. 10, 1942. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II as a chemist on the Manhattan atomic project in Los Alamos, N.M. He received his doctorate in chemistry at the University of New Mexico in 1951.
He and his family moved to the Bay Area in 1954 and to San Rafael in 1964, when he established his own operations research firm, Paul Stillson & Co. He conducted efficiency studies for major corporations such as Kaiser, C & H Sugar, Castle & Cook, and Standard Oil.
Active in duplicate bridge, he was a life master, as is his wife. They played in many regional and national tournaments as well as at local bridge clubs.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Marion Stillson of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Janet Ann Stillson of San Rafael; and two grandchildren, Kenneth and Judith Stillson of Washington, D.C.
Family members asked that any contributions be made to the Cancer Foundation.
