He had lived in the Bel Marin Keys area of Novato since 1971.
He retired in 1961 as the West Coast regional manager of the Chain Belt Co., based in Milwaukee, Wis.
A native of Golden, Colo., he moved to Montana with his family as a child, later settling in Lake Oswego, Ore., for most of his adult life.
He served as a governor appointee on the Clackamas County Welfare Board in Oregon for a number of years.
Bergis was a member of the Masons and Kiwanis and Aero clubs, all in Portland, Ore.; the Lake Oswego County Club; the Elks Club in Portland, Ore., and San Rafael; and Sons In Retirement in Marin County.
He is survived by his wife, Helen R. Bergis of Novato; two sons, Robert R. Bergis of Novato and Donald H. Bergis of Los Altos Hills; and two grandsons.
The body will be cremated. The family prefers donations to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in San Francisco or the Marin County Humane Society.
