A. W. Hutchinson Meets Sad Death
The body of J. H. Hutchinson was found by Constables Hughes and Agnew in the dam near the head of Bill Williams Gulch last Monday afternoon. Deceased had been missing for several weeks and his relatives during that time have had a quiet search made for him. The attention of the officers was called to the location of the body by an unsigned and undated letter received from San Francisco that the body of a man was in the dam in William’s Gulch near Ross Station. Coroner Sawyer brought the body here late Monday night.
Deceased was a brother of Mrs. Morris, and was formerly connected with her in the management of the Mount View, Ancho Vista and Linda Vista hotels. The officers here are inclined to the belief that the death was the result of an accident. This theory is bourne out by the fact that a loaded and undischarged revolver was found upon the body. The letter is supposed to have been written by some one of the many picnicers (sic) who visit the canyon on Sunday.
Deceased was a man of kindly disposition who made many friends here. He was an artist of no small ability, and his love of sketching and of nature frequently took him to Tamalpais and t he canyon where his body was found.
The date for holding the inquest has not been fixed though the following jury has been summoned by coroner: C. Adams, B. W. Studley, Daniel Schneider, J. Kappenmann, F. J. Ward, Prosper Schneider, A. Shevits, Dick Martin and W. Butterworth.
The remains were viewed by the jury Tuesday afternoon and were taken to San Francisco for interment by the family of the deceased.
