Dr. John B. Tufts, Former Resident, Passes in Berkeley
John Burnside Tufts, 73, former resident of San Rafael and San Anselmo, before his retirement some 20 years ago, passed away at his home in Berkeley last Wednesday, following an acute heart attack to which he had been subject for about two months.
Funeral service was held last Friday from St. Clements Episcopal Church at Claremont.
Dr. Tufts leaves his wife, Florence Ingalsbe Tufts, two brothers, Clarence Tufts of Sausalito and Frank A. Tufts of Loomis; sister, Mary Elizabeth Tufts of Leavenworth, Kan., and was an uncle of Helen Carlson, Larkspur, deputy in the County Clerk Jones’ office.
For a number of years, Dr. Tufts was a member of the dental faculty of U.C., and was a well known art exhibitor of the bay area having won, in 1940, the coveted John I. Waller memorial prize at the S. F. Art Association.
While residing in Marin county Dr. Tufts spent many years at his home in Culloden Park San Rafael, and was an active member of the Marin Golf and Country Club. While residing in San Anselmo, he lived at the Barber tract, Winship Park.
