JOHN J. MARCOVICH Sr.
John Joseph Marcovich Sr., a longtime Marin County resident, died Tuesday in a Peninsula hospital after a long illness. He was 75.
Marcovich was a retired racetrack supervisor, having worked for Bay Meadows and Golden Gate tracks. He was a member of Building Services Employees Union Local No. 9.
He was born in Biloxi, Miss., and came to San Francisco as a child with his family. He moved to Marin County 33 years ago. The family home is in Marinwood.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel; two sons, Peter Marcovich of San Francisco and John Joseph Marcovich Jr. of Richmond; a sister, Catherine Bonacich of Menlo Park; and a granddaughter. One son, Vincent Marcovich, died previously.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent’s School chapel in Marinwood. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael. Burial will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery.
