LEWIS C. ANKNE DIES AT 65

Lewis C. Ankne, 65, of San Rafael, died yesterday at a local hospital after an illness of two weeks.

He was a retired groundsman for the San Rafael Park and Recreation Department.

Born in Latrobe, Pa., Ankne moved to Oakland in 1933 to take a construction job on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

He subsequently worked as a truck driver in San Francisco before moving to Sausalito in 1940. While a Marin resident, he was a conductor for the Northwestern Pacific Railroad before taking a job with the city of San Rafael in 1958. He retired in 1967.

Annkne had lived in San Rafael since 1948.

He was a member of the Marin Rod and Gun Club.

Surviving are his wife, Frances, and two brothers, Joseph and Kenneth Ankne, and two sisters, Mrs. Harry Fruedeberg and Mrs. Al Reiss, addresses unknown.

Ankne’s funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael, followed by private inurnment.
