CHARLES A. VARNEY
A funeral for hardware store owner Charles A. Varney of Novato will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Russell and Gooch Funeral Chapel, Mill Valley.
Varney, 58, died Sunday in a local hospital.
He was born in Mill Valley and lived his life in Marin County. He was the former owner of Varney’s Hardware in Mill Valley. His father, the late Antonio Varney, was one of the founders of t he store.
Varney and his sister, Valerie Dodge of Mill Valley, ran Varney’s Tiburon Hardware for 15 years. They sold the business last year.
He served in the Navy Seabees in the Pacific during World War II.
In addition to his sister, he is survived by his mother, Elsie Varney of San Rafael; a sister, Antoinette Battles of Concord; and a brother, George Varney of Sacramento.
Visitation will be at the funeral chapel after 6 p.m. today.
Burial will be in Golden Gate National Cemetery, Colma.
