CEDRIC E. CLUTE

Former San Anselmo City Councilman Cedric E. Clute died early today at a local hospital after a brief illness. He was 72.

Clute had been a real estate salesman for about 20 years.

Born in Oakland, he came to Ross with his family when he was two months old and he lived most of the rest of his life in Marin. He had lived in San Anselmo since finishing high school.

He formerly owned a leather goods store in San Anselmo and also operated a similar business in San Rafael during World War II.

He was appointed to a vacancy on the San Anselmo City Council in 1963 and served until 1966.

Clute also was interested in local history and was a member of the Marin County Historical Society and the San Anselmo Historical Commission.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of the family home in San Anselmo; two sons, Cedric Clute Jr. of Volcano, Amador County, and Peter Clute of San Anselmo; a stepson, Norton Hastings of Mill Valley; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial Mass is to be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ross.
