Fred Carroll Passed Away

Fred Carroll is no more. At twenty minutes past 10 o’clock last Monday night death came and released him from all suffering. For days previous all hope of recovery was gone and life became only a matter of hours Death was due to what is generally known as “the athletic heart.” Severe exertion while playing professional baseball years ago is given as the cause.

Death came as a welcome friend to the sufferer. Two hours before the end came he regained consciousness and called for his wife and gently bid her goodbye. He never spoke afterwards.

Carroll is a man who will be missed by all who loved a big, bluff, jovial, generous hearted fellow, who was a man, every inch. He possessed to a high degree all of those attributes that invite and hold the admiration of human kind. Large and powerful, he was as gentle as a woman. A devoted friend. Generous to a fault. A helping hand for the needy and possessed of a rare moral courage that knew no fear. Such is the estimate of Fred Carroll, as made by those who knew him during his many years of residence here.

The sympathy that goes out to wife and three children who survive him is as universal and unstinted in its measure as it is true in its quality. A true, devoted husband and father is no more. A loyal and beloved friend of hundreds here is also gone.

Deceased was Worthy Patron of the San Rafael Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and a past master of Marin Lodge No. 191, F. and A. M., and the funeral services will be held under the auspices of the order today. The services will be held at the Masonic Hall at 11:30 a.m. and the body will then be taken to Odd Fellows’ cemetery in San Francisco where crematory services will be held.
