Charles J. Callan, Tomales Pioneer, Is Called by Death
Charles J. Callan, widely known Marin county pioneer, died last Saturday at his home in Tomales following a two-weeks illness. He was 79 years of age, and born in Valley Ford and had lived 60 years on the Callan ranch, where at the time of his death, lived with his sister, Mrs. Harry McPhillips. He has retired from active ranch work for about ten years.
His parents, the late Michael and Hanna Callan, were among the early settlers of the coast section. A brother, Edward J. Callan, died some time ago.
Mr. Callan was the uncle of Milton Callan of Tomales, who now conducts the ranch; James and Emmett Callan, Mrs. Mildred Cassidy, Mrs. Constance Kitty, Mrs. Elaine Hanley of San Francisco.
Funeral service took place on Monday forenoon from the home at Tomales, thence to the Church of the Assumption, where a mass was said. Interment was at Tomales cemetery.
