Paper Mill Founder Dies In San Francisco
A bit of Marin’s early history is brought to the recollection of old timers by the announcement of the funeral in San Francisco last Saturday of Harrison Barto, pioneer California paper manufacturer who built his first mill, the first to be erected in this state, at Camp Taylor in this county.
The mill was established shortly after Barto arrived here in 1869. He subsequently organized the Spaulding & Barto Printing Company, the first of its kind in San Francisco.
