Man Dies in Burning Home
Charred Body Found in Ruins of House

Caught in the flaming furnace of his own home, CHARLES M. HODKINS, 52, was burned to death at Lagunitas shortly after midnight Monday morning.

Separated from his wife, ADELE HODKINS, who temporarily is living in San Anselmo, Hodkins had his father, LOUIS A. HODKINS, 78, over at Lagunitas as a weekend guest.

The father awakened to find the house full of smoke. He discovered his son pouring water on a fire that had partially enveloped the kitchen. The elder Hodkins helped by using a fire extinguisher on the flames. The resulting smoke was so dense that the elder Hodkins made for the front door, calling to his son to use a rear door and escape. He thought the son had done so, until a search outside failed to find him. Later his charred body was found in the ruins of the house.

The dead man operated a small glove factory in his home. He had lived in Lagunitas for many years. Besides his estranged wife, he leaves a son, MALCOLM HODKINS, a law student in Oakland, and a daughter, Mrs. PHYLLIS LAUGHLIN.
