LOUIS KOBLICK
San Rafael – Louis Koblick of San Rafael, a leader in the Jewish community, died Thursday at a local hospital at the age of 91.
He was born in Kisnev, Russia, emigrating to this country when he was 13. He went to work in New York sewing caps but a short time later, he came to San Francisco and opened his own business, Perfection Cleaners.
He operated the business along with his wife, the former Frances Horowitz, for 26 years, retiring in 1951.
After his wife died, Koblick moved to San Rafael to live with his son, Maury Koblick of San Rafael, a state Supreme Court research attorney.
The senior Koblick was co-founder of the Jewish Folk Chorus in San Francisco and was an active member of the Jewish Cultural Club, Hebrew Free Loan Association of San Francisco, Masada Club of Marin and the Fifty Plus Club of the Marin Jewish Community Center as well as other philanthropic and charitable organizations.
In addition to his son, he is survived by four grandsons and one sister, Rose Wiseman of Oakland.
The funeral will be held Sunday at Sinai Memorial Chapel in San Francisco at a time to be announced later.
The family prefers memorial contributions to a favorite charity.
