Veteran Soldier And Magazine Man Dies Suddenly At Home

Charles A. Andrews, one of the oldest veterans of the Civil war in this section, died suddenly at his home here Monday. He was the husband of the late Phylinda Andrews, father of Viola Andrews, Mrs. Robert Kendall, Mrs. L. M. Jordan and Mrs. J. O. Getz, a native of Pennsylvania, aged 81 years. A member of Lincoln Post No. 1, G.A.R., of San Francisco.

Friends attended the funeral services at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, March 3 at Sawyer Co.’s parlors, and interment took place in Mt. Tamalpais cemetery.

Mr. Andrews has for many years handled a magazine agency in this county and is well known for consistent application to his business. His careful and painstaking interest in each customer drew much of the magazine business to him, and orders came in from distant points for him to handle. Although over 80 years of age, Mr. Andrews operated a car with the ability of a young man. About one year ago he suffered a broken leg by falling down stairs, but soon recovered.

During the war Andrews was connected with an Indiana regiment and saw much service.
