JAMES A. CHAPMAN

A memorial service for James A. Chapman, who was born and raised in Marin County, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ross.

Chapman, 50, died Saturday at his home in Sun Valley, Idaho, after a short illness.

Chapman was a graduate of Tamalpais High School and the University of California, Berkeley. During the Korean War he served as a captain in the Army.

For many years he was in the insurance and sporting goods business in San Francisco. About a year ago, he moved to Sun Valley, where he operated a sporting goods business.

He is survived by his mother, Muriel J. Chapman of Kentfield; one son, James Rowland Chapman of San Francisco; and two sisters, Elizabeth Purdom and Patricia Griffith, both of San Anselmo.

The family prefers memorial contributions to a favorite charity.
