Pioneer Passes At Age Of Ninety-One
Patrick McDermott, pioneer and highly respected citizen of San Rafael, closed his long life of ninety-one years last Tuesday and was laid to rest this morning after an impressive ceremony which was attended by many men and women who had known and admitted him for years of his active life.
In peace and with patience he had awaited the end for several months, and a short time ago he named from among the men with whom he had long associated those he wished to carry him to his grave.
There was a large attendance at the services held at St. Raphael’s church, where a requiem mass was celebrated, and the esteem in which the deceased was held was attested in part by the great quantity of floral tributes placed around his bier. Burial was made in Mt. Olivet by the Stephen Eden Undertaking Company.
The deceased was in every sense a pioneer. He took part in early day improvements of San Rafael, many of the cement sidewalks still in existence having been laid under his direction. His wife passed away some years ago. He was the father of Elizabeth, Edward and William McDermott, Mrs. S. Grigsby, Mrs. Fred Conteras and Mrs. Agnes Bottini, and grandfather of Dorothy Axtell, Genevieve Grigsby and Edith Bottini.
