FRANCES S. HILL
Frances S. Hill of Greenbrae, longtime Marin and Sonoma county resident, died Wednesday in a local hospital after an illness. She was 79.
Mrs. Hill was born in Indiana but spent most of her life in Marin and Sonoma. She was a founding member of the Ross Valley Players and the Meadow Club.
She was an avid sportswoman and played golf until about a year ago and also had won fly casting competitions both in this country and in New Zealand.
She was the widow of Raymond M. Hill Jr., a member of the pioneer Novato family who owned the large Hill Ranch.
The couple lived in Belvedere and Ross before moving to Oakmont near Santa Rosa a few years ago. Mrs. Hill moved back to Marin about a year ago. The couple also had lived in Italy at one time.
Survivors include one son, Raymond M. Hill Jr. of Novato; one sister, Bertha Allen of Greenbrae; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ross. Inurnment will be in Cypress Hill Memorial Park, Petaluma.
The family prefers memorial contributions to Hospice of Marin or a favorite charity.
