Lt. Col. DONALD D. SMITH
A Mass of Christian Burial for retired Lt. Col. Donald D. Smith of San Rafael, a Marin resident for almost 20 years, will be said Tuesday at St. Isabella’s Church in Terra Linda.
Smith, retired from the Army, died Thursday at a San Francisco hospital. He was 71.
He was a native of Michigan. Smith was a career Army officer and served during World War II and the Korean War. He was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco before his retirement in 1962.
He was a member of the Counter-intelligence Association of the Army.
Marion Smith, his wife, is the author of children’s books.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Lt. Col. Paul G. Stringer of Atlantic City, N.J., and nine grandchildren.
The rosary will be recited Monday at 8 p.m. at the base chapel at Hamilton Air Force Base.
The family prefers memorial donations to a favorite charity.
