C. A. Burkhart Drops Dead On Truck
Charles A. Burkhart, well known expressman, and head of Burkart’s Express Company of this city, dropped dead early this morning enroute from Cazadero, Sonoma county, to San Rafael with a truck load of furniture. Coroner J. Ray Keaton received this sad intelligence about 10 a.m. today, and after notifying relatives, went after the body. He expects to reach this city about 5 o’clock.
Burkhart’s death is thought to be due to overexertion followed by an attack of heart failure, according to information received from Coroner Phillips of Santa Rosa.
Deceased was aged 68 years. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Lena Burkhart, and one daughter, Mrs. Zada Hachman. Deceased was born in Illinois; came to California at an early date and farmed at Stockton. Thirty seven years ago he established an express business here.
