STANLEY H. FRIESE

A memorial service for Stanley H. Friese, 63, of Soldotna, Alaska, former deputy superintendent of the Marin County Schools Office, has been held in Kenai, Alaska.

Friese died Oct. 23 in Chula Vista, San Diego County, after becoming ill during a vacation to Southern California and Mexico.

He had been deputy superintendent in Marin County from 1963 until 1971 when he was appointed superintendent of State Operated Schools in Alaska.

At his job in Alaska he was responsible for operating 150 schools in bush communities and on military bases.

He resigned as superintendent of State Operated Schools in 1975 and served as principal of Ninilchik High School until he retired in 1979.

He and his wife, Sue, owned and operated the Riverside Campground on the Kenai River in Soldotna.

Friese was a native of Tacoma, Wash. He served in the Army in Alaska during World War II.

He received his bachelor’s degree from Pacific Lutheran College in Tacoma and a master’s degree from San Francisco State College.

Friese lived in Juneau, Alaska, from 1951 to 1952 as a business analyst for the U. S. Office of Price Stabilization.

He was a member of the Elks Club, the American Legion, Lions International and several professional organizations.

Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Nancy Calvert of Soldotna, and two sisters, Doris Edwards of Edmonds, Wash., and Anne Hernstad of Novato.

The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the Elks Club Scholarship Fund in care of Duane Quelette, Kenai, Alaska 99611.
