Requiem High Mass Held For Mrs. Silva
One of the largest funerals held in this city for many years was held Wednesday when sorrowing relatives and friends paid their last tribute to Mrs. Mary Silva, wife of Frank Silva, who died last Saturday following an automobile accident, in which she was almost instantly killed. Services were held at the family home on First street at 9:30, under the direction of the F. E. Sawyer Company, and at 10 o’clock a solemn requiem high mass for the repose of her soul was held at St. Raphael’s church with Fathers McCarthy, Fleming and Hennessy, officiating. Interment took place at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Numerous floral pieces banked the grave, sent by friends and relatives of the deceased, and from San Rafael Council No. 19, S.P.R.S.I., of which deceased was a member.
Last Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Silva, accompanied by their two sons, Frank and Howard Silva, a daughter, Angelina and the latter’s companion Anna Johansen, left here in a Lincoln touring car for a visit to the Silva ranch in San Joaquin county. While passing through the Niles canyon near Dublin, the car was swerved suddenly to the right to avoid a hole in the highway, and went over a steep embankment. Mrs. Silva was instantly killed. Others in the party escaped with but slight injuries.
Mrs. Silva was immediately taken to the Haywards Emergency hospital where she died. The body was later brought to this city by Coroner J. Ray Keaton.
Deceased was a native of California, aged 40 years. She leaves to mourn her passing a husband, Frank Silva, two sons, Frank and Howard, and a daughter, Angelina; a father Joseph Cabral, and a sister, Mrs. Walter Gasper.
