BENJAMIN P. DRAPER

Craig, Colo.
Dr. Benjamin P. Draper, a retired professor of broadcast communications at San Francisco State University, died in here Thursday night while on a research trip. He was 73.

Dr. Draper, a resident of Mill Valley, suffered a fatal heart attack.

He was a longtime student of the life of Sir Francis Drake and spent 20 years compiling a bibliography of the explorer’s voyage to California.

In 1973-74, Dr. Draper, then chairman of the Broadcast Industry Conference, directed the Pacific Nations Broadcast Exchange, a program which coordinated the translation and exchange of radio and television programs between the United States and other nations across the Pacific.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, a daughter, Deborah, and a son, Douglas.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
