JOSEPH G. MILANI

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael’s Church in San Rafael for Joseph G. Milani, a former San Anselmo butcher and longtime Marin resident.

Mr. Milani died unexpectedly Monday at his home in San Rafael. He was 83.

For years, he had owned the Valley Cash Meat Market in San Anselmo and later was a butcher at the Home Market in San Anselmo.

He retired in 1962 to devote time to his hobbies, golfing and gardening.

Mr. Milani was born in Italy and came to Fairfax when he was 7. He also lived in San Anselmo for a time before moving to San Rafael in 1943.

In May, he and his wife, Virginia, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She was the assistant recorder for Marin County for 21 years before she retired.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Milani is survived by two daughters, Bebe Pellegrini of San Rafael and Janet Lamphere of Greenbrae; seven grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in San Rafael.
