LILLIAN HOSMER
The funeral for Lillian R. Hosmer of San Rafael, long active in state and Bay Area medical auxiliaries, will be held Saturday noon at the Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo.
Mrs. Hosmer died Tuesday in Novato Community Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 88.
Mrs. Hosmer was the widow of Dr. Matthew N. Hosmer of San Rafael, who died in 1980. Their daughter, Barbara J. Hosmer of Greenbrae, formerly was women’s editor of the Independent Journal.
Mrs. Hosmer was born in Parker, S.D. She attended San Jose Normal College and College of the Pacific, earning a state teacher’s credential. She taught in the Sarah Dix Hamlin School in San Francisco before moving to Marin County about 1950. She was one of the first members of the Marin Art and Garden Center, and active in the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
She also was past president of the California Medical Association Auxiliary, the women’s auxiliary of the San Francisco Medical Society, the U.C. Doctors’ Wives Association and the Franklin Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by a son, Robert E. Hosmer of San Rafael; her daughter, and two sisters, Eunice Coonradt and Vera Truscott, both of San Jose.
Burial will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael. Friends may call at the mortuary after 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
The family prefers memorial contributions to the Marin County Heart Association.
