PAUL ROMER
Paul Romer of San Anselmo, a painter and one of the founders of the Marin Society of Artists, died Tuesday at Hillside Manor Convalescent Hospital in San Rafael. He was 87.
He was a native of San Francisco.
Mr. Romer worked for 47 years as an insurance broker for Commercial Union Insurance Co. in San Francisco, retiring in 1965.
He was well known for his landscape scenes in oil and pastels and helped found the Marin Society of Artists in 1927.
Mr. Romer became president of the organization in 1935 and helped revitalize it after membership dropped to 10 people during t he Depression years.
His survivors include his wife, Laura Romer of San Anselmo; a daughter, Elizabeth Merrill of Novato; a son, Robert Romer of Corte Madera; six grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael. Inurnment will be private.
The family prefers memorial contributions to the Marin Society of Artists in Ross.
