ELIZABETH P. WRAY

A burial service has been held in Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura for Elizabeth P. Wray, former longtime Marin resident and businesswoman.

Mrs. Wray died Saturday in Oxnard, Ventura County, after a lengthy illness. She was 81.

She was born in Denver.

She opened the Elizabeth Wray Beauty Studio in the Albert Building in San Rafael, later moving it to a different location on Fourth Street. In 1941, she opened a shop on her own property in Santa Venetia.

In 1942, she became women’s coordinator of a machinists’ shop for the Navy on Mare Island, which she operated until 1946. She then returned to running the beauty shop in Santa Venetia, which she operated until her retirement in 1979 and her subsequent move to Oxnard.

She had lived for many years at Buckeye Point near China Camp.

Mrs. Wray was an active member of the Marin Chapter of the American Red Cross and was the founder and past president of the Santa Venetia Improvement Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth J. Payne of Oxnard, two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
