MERLE J. COSTA
Merle J. Costa of Petaluma, a longtime restaurant operator and cook, died Thursday at Kaiser Hospital in San Rafael after a six-month illness. She was 67.
Mrs. Costa was born and reared in Los Angeles and moved to Bodega Bay 30 years ago. She owned and operated a restaurant there and later worked as a cook at The Tides.
Mrs. Costa had also worked as a cook at Ron’s Café in Petaluma until her retirement six years ago.
She is survived by her husband, John M. Costa Jr. of Petaluma; a brother, B. J. Bonacini; and two sisters, Dorothy Baker and Elizabeth Thwartz. A daughter, Pamela Kennison, died previously.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bodega Cemetery. Recitation of the rosary will be at 8 tonight at the Parent-Sorensen Mortuary in Petaluma.
