Remains of Suicide Found Near Manor

Sunday morning Constable E. H. Horstkotter and Deputy Sheriff Tracy came upon the bones of the lower extremities of a man in a gulch just off the highway between Manor and White’s Hill, and above the remains were the head and shoulders of a man suspended from a tree by a rope.

An investigation by Coroner J. Ray Keaton showed the man’s name to be Joe Smith, and that he had hanged himself during the latter part of March.

Evidence was found which seemed to indicate that the man was 63 years of age; that he was a member of the bridge gang employed by the Northwestern Pacific Railroad Company and that he had been employed at one time by the Red River Lumber Company in Lassen county.

A $10.00 bill was found in his clothing.
