Rev. PAUL H. BUCHHOLZ

A memorial service for the Rev. Paul H. Buchholz of Greenbrae, retired pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in San Anselmo, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the church. The Rev. Mr. Buchholz died Wednesday at his home. He was 92.

The Rev. Mr. Buchholz was born in Lexington, Neb., and attended rural schools before enrolling at the University of Dubuque in Iowa in 1911.

Leaving college to serve in the Army, he returned and graduated in 1920 with a bachelor of divinity degree from the theological seminary at the university. He served the next nine years as the Presbyterian Board of National Missions’ assistant director of Spanish work for the Rocky Mountain area.

He earned his doctor of divinity degree in 1930 from the University of Dubuque and served as president of the school until 1935.

He moved to the Bay Area in 1936 and was active in numerous church organizations while serving as pastor at several Presbyterian churches.

The Rev. Mr. Buchholz also was a former registrar of the Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Strawberry and served as executive secretary of the Northern California Council of Churches.

He belonged to a Masonic Lodge in San Francisco and was a member of the Commonwealth Club and San Anselmo Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Catherine C. Buchholz; a daughter, Myra Jean Jones of Rockford, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

His family asked that memorial contributions go to the University of Dubuque or the First Presbyterian Church in San Anselmo.
