CHARLES GILLIS

Charles Gillis of Kentfield, a retired home builder and real estate broker, died Friday at his home. He was 86.

Mr. Gillis was born in Illinois and raised in Michigan.

He was a graduate of the University of Michigan.

He worked in the land division of the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. for about 20 years. He was involved in land acquisitions for the construction of large power plants and the Hetch Hetchy Dam.

He and his wife, Clarissa, moved to Marin in 1930.

Mr. Gillis left PG&E in the early 1950s and built many homes in Kent Woodlands and Ross. He and his wife owned and operated C. Gillis Realtors for many years.

He was a naturalist and supported many conservation causes.

He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Kay Gillis of Larkspur.

No services are planned.

The family prefers memorial donations to the American Cancer Society.
