JOHN J. CRIMMINS
A Mass of Christian Burial for John J. Crimmins of San Rafael will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Isabella’s Church in Terra Linda.
Mr. Crimmins died Wednesday at his home from cancer of the pancreas. He was 55.
He was born in Massachusetts and graduated there from Suffolk University. He moved to California in 1964, coming to San Rafael.
Mr. Crimmins worked 25 years as a personnel officer for the General Services Administration in San Francisco.
He and his family were also temporary parents to hundreds of children over a seven-year period. The family served as a receiving home for Marin County, taking in children on an emergency basis. Youngsters stayed until they could return to their parents or be placed in permanent foster homes.
Mr. Crimmins was known for being equally comfortable dealing with toddlers and teenagers. Family members recalled receiving a 3-year-old just two days before Christmas and Mr. Crimmins rushing through stores duplicating presents that had already been purchased for the family’s own child of the same age.
Mr. Crimmins is survived by his wife of 34 years, Barbara Crimmins of San Rafael; three sons, Jack Crimmins of Beverly Hills, Sean Crimmins and Paul Crimmins of San Rafael; three daughters, Mary Crimmins and Hilary Smith-Crimmins of San Rafael and Terri Clow of Rohnert Park; a brother of Robert E. Crimmins of Massachusetts; and a grandson.
Recitation of the rosary will be at 7:30 tonight at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael. Burial will be at Valley Memorial Park in Novato.
