JOHN LOCKE LESTER

A memorial service for John Locke Lester, a resident of San Rafael for the last seven years, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church in Santa Venetia.

Mr. Lester died at his home Monday after a long illness. He was 77.

He was born in Wabasha, Minn., and was raised in Winona, Minn.

He married his wife, Mary, in 1935 in Peoria, Ill.

During World War II, he served as an Army captain.

Mr. Lester retired 12 years ago from the Clark Equipment Co., where he was the computer and systems consultant. The company is based in Buchanan, Mich. At the time of his retirement, he was living in Strasbourg, France.

The couple then moved to Peoria, Ill., and then to San Rafael seven years ago.

Mr. Lester was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Chicago, Ill.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Norine Lester of Wilmette, Ill., and Rita Borwick of San Francisco; a son, James Lester of San Rafael; a sister, Sister Virginia Lester of Dubuque, Iowa; and 11 grandchildren.

Burial will be at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery. The family prefers memorial gifts to John Locke Lester History Scholarship at St. Theresa’s College in Winona, Minn.
