CARL MANFRED JOHNSON
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Napa for Carl Manfred Johnson, one-time Marin resident and former superintendent of maintenance at Hamilton Air Force Base.
Mr. Johnson, who was 76, died Saturday at a Napa convalescent hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born and raised in Sweden and became an American citizen in 1932.
During a long and varied career, in addition to his position at Hamilton, he was a commercial fisherman in San Diego and an independent boat builder and repairman in Napa.
After moving to Napa, Mr. Johnson spent four years building a 30-foot boat.
He also raised Llewellyn setters and beagles and enjoyed hunting as well as fishing.
Mr. Johnson was a 35-year member of Marin Masonic Lodge 191 and also was a past commander of Flotilla 52 of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He belonged to the Vasa Club in San Francisco.
He is survived by his wife, Bette, of Napa; a son, Robert Johnson of San Rafael; two stepsons, Darrell Kipsey of San Jose and Keith Kipsey of Napa; five sisters and one brother; one grandson; and four step-grandchildren.
The family prefers memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 1732 Jefferson St., No. 4, Napa, or to a favorite charity.
