GLADYS M. DOOSE

Gladys M. Doose of San Rafael, a longtime Marin resident, died Wednesday at her home after a lengthy illness. She was 86.

Mrs. Doose was born in Lohrville, Iowa, and was a graduate of Iowa State University.

She and her husband, Clarence L. Doose, moved to California in 1920. They operated a candy and ice cream parlor in Larkspur and then moved to San Quentin in 1935. They lived there until 1947 when her husband retired as captain.

Mrs. Doose, a homemaker, had lived in Larkspur and San Anselmo before moving to San Rafael in 1980. She and her husband had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in January.

She was a member of the Rainbow Division of the Veterans Auxiliary.

She also is survived by three daughters, Pauline V. Smith of San Rafael, Barbara Cardinalli of Daly City and Genevieve D. Mitchell of San Rafael; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

At her request, no service will be held.

The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Marin, the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
