Dr. Geo. Powers Passes Away

Dr. George H. Powers, who lived here for many years, and is kindly remembered by all the older residents of San Rafael, passed away last Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. R. Chapman, in Detroit, Michigan. After a lingering illness, he succumbed to heart failure.

Dr. Powers was born in Chelsea, Mass., on June 13th, 1839, and came to California in 1866, after serving as a surgeon in the Civil War.

He was an eye and ear specialist, and occupied a chair in Toland Medical College, retaining the position after the college affiliated with the State University.

He also practiced his profession in San Francisco and San Rafael, and was a member of several prominent clubs in that city. He was a Mason of the highest degree, and is well known in Masonic circles.

He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Cornelia Chapman Powers and four children.
