Obituary
On Monday morning, May 5th, the last sad rites and tokens of respect that can be performed by sorrowing relatives and friends were tendered the late Martin Jordan, cousin of our esteemed citizen, Anthony Timony. The funeral was conducted by T. Murray, Mr. Timony having decided to enter the body of his relative in his family plot in Mt. Olivet cemetery. A solemn requiem mass was celebrated at St. Raphael’s Catholic church upon the arrival of the funeral cortege from San Francisco at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Father Foley officiating at the mass as well as the services at the grave.
The deceased was a native of Ireland, twenty-seven years of age, and arrived here from his home across the sea only three short weeks ago. He left a lonely mother to await his return to her after gleaning his fortune in the sunny field of fair California. But, what a deluge of sorrow must be that mother’s share!
The integrity of this young man and the esteem in which he was held by all who knew him best was evidenced by the whole-souled affection and loving care bestowed upon by life long friends and school-day chums in the painful days preceding his demise, as well as by their deep grief at the grave-side. Nothing was left undone that might make his burden of pain easier to bear, and the final gathering in the quiet country cemetery witnessed the sad, but loving consignment to Mother Earth of all that is mortal of Martin Jordan. The sincere sympathy of those who knew him is extended to his bereaved family and friends in far Ireland and that this sword of sorrow may be tempered by the gentle hand of mercy of Him who best knows our needs, is the earnest prayer of those who must send the sad tidings.
