Eugene Corcoran Died Thursday

Eugene, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Corcoran, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital this morning (Thursday) at four o’clock, aged fourteen years.

He was an only child, and the life of his devoted parents was centered in him. A second son passed on two years ago and this bereavement falls with crushing weight upon the afflicted father and mother.

Several weeks ago, Eugene and a young friend were riding a motorcycle, when the wheel skidded and threw both boys with great violence, Eugene striking against a tree that fractured his skull.

He rallied from his injuries with surprising vitality, and was out again and able to enjoy his usual diversions, when he suffered a sudden relapse, and on Monday was taken to St. Mary’s hospital in San Francisco. There an operation was performed on his head, and although he recovered from the effects of t he anaesthetic, and the doctors thought that he had a chance to live, he breathed his last as the light broke over the eastern skies on Thursday morning.

Eugene was a sweet tempered, generous and affectionate boy, beloved by his companions’ parents almost as much as he was in his own home.

The mothers who knew him best weep for him as for a son. The sympathy of t he whole community goes out to the desolated father and mother of this child, with whose passing the joy and gladness of the home goes out forever.

Although scores of friends would fain console them in their dark hour, words fail in the presence of such sorrow, and only tears betoken what the heart would speak.

But though grief abideth for a night, joy cometh in the morning, “And in the morn, those angel faces smiles, Which we have loved long since, and lost awhile.”
