Death Called C. E. Kettlewell
George (sic) Edward Kettlewell passed away in the Hahnemann hospital, San Francisco, on Thursday Morning, June 26th, aged 28 years.
Mr. Kettlewell was born in St. Helena, California, and came to this city about ten years ago, where he has been a valued employee of the H. R. Ecklund Electrical Company.
Two weeks ago, he contracted a severe cold, and suffered so intensely with ear ache, that finally a specialist from the city, on advice of Dr. Marston, was called in, and the case was diagnosed as mastoid abscesses. He was immediately taken to the hospital for an operation, which was performed Monday, June 23rd. It was found that the abscesses had penetrated the floor of the cranium, and the brain was seriously involved. The malady had progressed too far for surgical aid to be of any avail, and although the condition revealed by the operation was exactly in accord with the diagnosis, the relief given only prolonged life for a few days.
Charlie (sic) Kettlewell lived a quiet life. Not to be administered unto but to administer was his ruling thought. He seemed never to permit an opportunity for doing a kindness to pass unimproved; cheerfully and willingly he sacrificed his time and strength, whenever by so doing he could serve a friend. Pure hearted, open minded, and true, he though well of his fellow man, seeing humanity through reflections on his own character.
He was a comfort to all who were bound to him by ties of blood, not only the widowed mother, whom he loved with a devotion of a little child, but to other relatives who felt as near to him as to their very own.
The Congregational church could not seat the friends that came in love and respect for his memory; floral offerings filled the chancel where the body reposed.
The pastor, Rev. C. C Champlin, was assisted in conducting the services by Rev. C. H. Stevens, of Redwood City, and by Dr. Angwin of the Methodist church, Mr. Stevens delivering a beautiful eulogy upon the life and character of his beloved parishioner, who had come into the church under his administration. The interment was in Mount Tamalpais cemetery.
The young widow, who has only been a wife for about two years, the bereaved mother and brother, and other mourning relatives have in their great sorrow, the sympathy of all who know them.
Mr. Kettlewell was a son of Mrs. Frank Kettlewell of San Rafael, a brother of Frank Kettlewell Jr. of Oakland, and a nephew of Dr. and Mrs. G. G. Vanderlip of this city.
